I made Late Summer Labs to capture the feeling of late summer—when the height of summer is just passing, and you feel that sense of joy at the weather and nature while also sensing the seasons changing and what's coming next. It's a time to meditate, to enjoy a rest in the final summer heat before the full harvest and preparing for winter takes up all your time.

I named it to capture that feeling because I see a similar natural pivot point happening in technology. We're at a moment where technology holds real hope and potential, but also where so much of it is being used in anti-user and anti-human ways.

Late Summer Labs is the counter to the theory of enshittification.

It's a place to make citizen-scale technology for small numbers of people to enjoy and use to better themselves and the world around them. Technology that doesn't spy, doesn't advertise, and doesn't take advantage of its users. It gives tools and power to those who need it most to push back against greed and hate.
